Great news came this afternoon from my oncologist. She permitted me to be on T-DM1! In the last meeting, she told me that she would discuss about my request to be on T-DM1 with her colleagues and her mentor Dr. Chlebowsky at UCLA, but since she sounded like she’d rather save it for the future, and T-DM1 is such an expensive medicine, I had no expectation for this great news.
According to her, Dr. Chlebowsky, who received the 2012 American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO)/American Cancer Society (ACS) Award, agreed to use T-DM1 as a maintenance medicine for me because of side effects.
This was already exciting enough, but on top of that, he even told my doctor maybe I can stop the treatment after 6 months if T-DM1 works well and keeps me in remission! Wow!!
Usually if cancer has metastasized, the patient has to continue on chemo for the rest of her life.
My doctor said probably I don’t want to stop the treatment, but No! NO! I am very open for that option if it is reasonable. I want to know and will ask her why he thinks I can stop the treatment if I am in remission in 6 months. Because it is very expensive? Or because the prognoses doesn’t change if I continue or discontinue ? I don’t know. It is just so out of blue.
Anyway, I am sooooooo excited with this great news! As the doctor said that she was going to order the medicine, I expect to start T-DM1 from next month. This is a miracle and I am so thankful for so many people who prayed for me to get T-DM1!
GOD IS TRULY FAITHFUL AND GOOD ALL THE TIME!
